Side note, The Endless Summer is an absolute classic 60's surfing movie. If your not a surfer now, you will definitely want to be one after watching. And that was exactly us.
Since living 40 min away from one of National Geographic's top rated surf destinations in the world ( Raglan, NZ) we jumped online and within a few days had purchased our very first boards. With our new boards in tow, little knowledge, fueled with determination and not nearly enough sunscreen, we hit the surf. Did we get tossed around like rag dolls, dragged under water, and drink half the ocean? Yes. Did we have the time of our lives? Also yes.
Summer on the North Island of New Zealand has been nothing short of amazing. Filled with epic nights camping on secluded beaches, sunset surfs, sunrise surfs and blasting tunes while cruising down some of the most scenic coastal drives we have ever been on. I always end every weekend with "okay now THAT was my favourite spot so far". Summer on the North Island, NZ is a must do.
